When I picked up Kelly Clark’s book, I was at a point where I felt I had NOTHING to lose.
I’d put all my energy into a restrictive diet. And when it backfired upon me, I not only gained back all the lost weight, but an additional 25 pounds. I was frustrated, confused, preoccupied by food all the time and had no idea how to proceed. Like most people with the goal of losing weight, I thought that weight loss required sheer determination and willpower.

This book is phenomenal. It’s simplified eating in ways that I never imagined. It’s made it easier to focus on almost everything in life. For example, at university, I can be fully present in the coursework without even thinking about food or my body. I say yes more often to social gatherings because I no longer feel ashamed or preoccupied by food. And I can enjoy food without anxiety or guilt. The information in this weight loss book has affected ALL aspects of my life because it allows me to be present and free. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.
What was the most SURPRISING part of this weight loss book?
This book shows you the shocking and almost hilariously simple knowledge that weight loss can happen:

- WITHOUT counting, measuring or obsessing over numbers and calories

Also, the book’s suggestion about exercise is some mind-boggling advice to dieters.

This book is highly comprehensive. It never made me feel overwhelmed despite being packed with information. It never used any alarmist message which would make me feel stressed about what I “should” or “shouldn’t” do. I feel as though this weight loss book allows me to make my own choices on my own timeline, which makes the process of weight loss stress-free and slow but steady and sustainable. I definitely have a solid foundation to work towards building better habits, losing weight and not being preoccupied by weight loss. The 3 Steps in this weight loss book are easy to follow.

It Took Me 10 Years to Lose 10 Pounds slices through the confusion that diets put us through and simplifies the process of reaching and maintaining a healthy weight in ways that will blow you away. It will lead you to having many “aha!” moments, as it did for me. Kelly’s weight loss book showed me that there’s another way. One which speaks so much clear, plain sense. It cuts through the noise of the damaging, false and tricky diet “information” that we’ve all come to believe in some way, shape or form.
My favourite message from this book is that it lead me to the joyous realization that weight loss just isn’t the struggle that we’re all taught to believe it is! I want to repeat this weight loss book’s key message:

I was skeptical while reading Kelly’s weight loss book
Rather than teaching me about how to yet again diet, this book helped me unlearn everything I knew about dieting. I was skeptical while reading Kelly’s book, because some of the suggestions seemed unlike what a person looking to lose weight would do. For example, the suggestion to start eating more fat in my meals made me feel conflicted. I’d always believed that eating more hearty meals was at odds with my goal of reaching and staying at a healthy weight.I couldn’t believe that after just days of implementing some of the small changes suggested by the book, I‘d already stopped some of my self-defeating dieting cycles such as starving and then binging.— Catherine, Australia

Seeing is believing – I couldn’t believe that after weeks or even days of implementing some of the small changes suggested by this weight loss book, I‘d already stopped some of my self-defeating dieting cycles. Kelly’s book contradicted everything that I believed I needed to do in order to lose weight – diets tell you to do this, eat that, don’t eat this, don’t eat that…After I stopped dieting via reading It took me 10 year to lose 10 pounds, my body simply took care of the rest and brought me back to the healthy weight that I am today. Now, looking back, I don’t blame myself but rather, I blame my lack of education surrounding what “healthy” eating truly looks like.

What I love about the book is not only that it’s written with great care, but it also breaks down the process of getting healthy into something that’s both realistic and achievable. The book even guides you on how to proceed if you think you’ve made a “mistake.”
The author’s compassion shines through her choice of language and her outlook on life is just highly inspiring to read. She never uses language which is condescending or demeaning and instead, she kindly invites you to take small steps in a positive direction.
